For quite some time I wanted re-read ‘Leadership that gets results’ by Daniel Goleman and was finally able to catch up and get some time to do it.

What caught my attention is direct correlation of the organization results and maturity of emotional intelligence of it its leaders.

It also provided very clear breakdown of the skills that together make up overall Emotional Intelligence concept.

Interestingly enough Empathy, something that being praised as the most important component of Emotional Intelligence, it just one of the many building blocks of the whole.

Skills that make up Emotional Intelligence are broken down in 4 categories:

  • Self-Awareness — how well someone can understand and be aware of him/herself
  • Self-Management — how well someone can manage emotions, be perceived by others and adapt to changing circumstances
  • Social Awareness — how well someone understands and aware of the social and organizational surrounding
  • Social Skills — how well someone can manage and influence other people and organization as a whole

And here is my little MindMap that breaks down those 4 skills categories into individual building blocks, that can be used and improved as needed for someone's personal or professional growth
